"the little theatre of alexandria"

As Seen In This Old House magazine, November, 2002

Just around the block from Alexandria, Virginia's "Little Theatre" (an operating live theater), this bathroom in Old Town Alexandria fulfills the client's request for a bathroom devoted to the daily bath and very little else. This bathroom isn't for the morning's ablutions, but for the evening's relaxation. To deal with some inconvenient ductwork over the tub area, the ceiling transition to the lowered height is addressed with a decorative arch with scrolls. To allow the toilet to move 6' from its old location while preserving the needed drain slope, the lavatory area is raised on a stage, an area that also receives the decorative arch/scroll combination. The tile is a heavily fossilized gold limestone; the "stage" area is pickled ash.
