completed in mid-2007, this kitchen in a historic rowhouse in alexandria, virginia, reconceives the kitchen and formal dining areas as closely connected spaces with the main kitchen island peeking into the new dining area. the reconstruction of the 19th century space was extensive and difficult, and the new cabinetry is designed to allow continued movement of the old structure.

the unusual bookcases feature a "jet fuselage" reflecting one of the clients' piloting skills. the small, tight kitchen is tailored for the principal cook of the house.
