the client wanted a kitchen that would fit the existing 10' x 8' kitchen with no structural modifications. (that's a very modestly sized room, by today's standards.) see the original kitchen here. the goal was not to cram the room full of cabinets and counters -- the client wanted an inviting small space, not an overstuffed closet. the defining features of the room are:
(1) a radiusing-out of the end of the "L" to make the cooking zone more inviting and user-friendly.
(2) a loose configuration of wall cabinets, with wall space reserved for future open shelving-type units as client desires dictate.
(3) small cooking appliances (24" gaggenau cooktop and blower; 24" whirlpool oven).
(4) a custom unit to house the smaller-scale refrigerator, microwave, and various pots, pans, and large dry foods.
(5) custom pull-out butcher block unit
the countertop here is trespa; the backsplash is terrazzo concrete made and fitted by suttondesign; the antique heart pine floor is original, refinished and stained by suttondesign. also featured, custom cabinet art-glass.
