sutton took a decade-long hiatus from law practice to pursue interests
in architecture and design. sutton's academic background in the
theory and history of art and architecture inform his method of combining
vernacular and contemporary styles. sutton follows in the craft-oriented
tradition of wm morris, christopher alexander, and johnny grey. sutton's
many completed commissions span a wide range of styles and influences
in response to clients' needs. 
suttondesign's projects routinely appear in books, magazines, and on television. patrick sutton contributes articles and features for fine homebuilding magazine.
suttondesign's method elevates the role of the client over "standardized" furniture and fittings. the firm designs and oversees the fabrication of all cabinetry and furniture specified in its projects. these projects -- the cooperative efforts of designers, crafts- and tradespeople, artists, and custom fabricators of every stripe -- run the gamut from custom furniture projects to whole-house rehab and redesign. sutton lives in austin, texas, with his wife kathryn and sons peter, daniel, and luke.
